ABOUT

Structure & Organization of Government (SOG)

Welcome to SOG - the ‘Structure and Organisation of Government’ research committee of the International Political Science Association (RC27)!

SOG is also the sponsor of the international journal ‘Governance. An International Journal of Policy, Administration and Institutions’, published by Wiley.

SOG's primary focus is the academic study of government, governance, executive politics, public administration, public management, regulation and state transformation . SOG is committed to the comparative study of executives, their changing roles in public policy and the various dimensions of executive politics. At the centre of this focus is the dynamics of public bureaucracies, their relations with political executives and interests in civil societies and their contributions to the design and implementation of public policies. SOG events focus on debates about the role of the state and its organization in the 21st century. SOG is interested in substantive and important questions and committed to theoretical and methodological pluralism.

SOG aims to enhance leading research into executive politics by organising high quality conferences and workshops and to promote international collaboration. SOG organizes at least one international conference a year. It also organises a series of panels at the bi-annual IPSA World Congress.

Membership to SOG is open to early and established researchers as well as practitioners interested in advancing the study of the structure and organisation of government. By joining SOG, you will be connected to one of the world’s largest networks of scholars and practitioners with similar interests.
